Why Nutrition?

Hint: it's not just about food

We all carry patterns of belief around food and how we consume our meals and snacks. Eating patterns become habits in our younger years and sometimes these patterns can be difficult to shift. 

 

With hormonal fluctuations, busy lifestyles and exposure to pollutants in our environment, our health can be directly impacted. Add to that the abundance of ultra-processed, chemically-laden "food" that is readily available and it can be difficult to recognise where feeling sluggish, tired, moody and  overwhelmed began.

But what if you want to feel RADICALLY better. To wake up energised and actually mean it when you say you feel good today?!

Food can be a healing tool to improve our health and when combined with the right functional testing, supplementation where needed and advice around exercise AND rest, things start to shift. It's no small thing. We all deserve to feel as well as possible. To eat food in its natural state and to feel satisfied and nourished by our food. But there is so much noise around this simple act of eating. Nourishing yourself is a complete circle of healing around other aspects of our lives, which is why naturopathic nutrition looks holistically at how and where to make adjustments, improvements and support positive change.

I'm Sascha, creator of Balanced Mama

I believe wholeheartedly in food as a healer, especially when we give ourselves permission to focus on our health goals and eat mindfully to achieve them. Sometimes we know the right thing to do, but even then we don't implement it. I am here to support clients who want to make this journey to feeling like their body systems work in harmony and that flow becomes their natural state.

​

What is FLOW? A feeling of working in harmony with nature, the seasons, the cycles of life and having an overall appreciation for food in its natural state over its processed counterpart

​

I am a CNM Naturopathic Nutrition graduate with further qualifications from Leith's Cooking School (Nutrition in Culinary Practice) and further studies in Pre/Postnatal nutrition (ION), Children's nutrition (ION) and recipe writing (ION). Alongside nutrition I have taught yoga for 14 years and am qualified in pre/postnatal yoga, restorative yoga (Anna Ashby), Sound Healing (Anne Malone) and Baby Massage (Peter Walker). I am a certified HolyMama retreat leader and have written several articles for Australian Yoga Journal. I am also trained in the speciality of nutrigenomics (Lifecode GX) - how our diets interact with our genetic makeup to affect nutrient uptake, enzyme and co-factor interaction. I am registered with BANT, ANP and CNHC.

I am a mother of 3 boys. This has shaped me and I shifted from the Arts industry into nutrition after my first son was born. I realised, deeply, how important it was to support mothers and take the load off so that they could mother effectively and from the heart. My desire is that children are taught how to fuel themselves though food, to support their brain health, gut health and to appreciate natural sweetness over added sugars. So much of how we feed our children comes from our early influences and we have the knowledge of what ultra-processed food does to our gut and brain health. It's time for change!
